"The number of youngsters who get tattoos that display the names of their loved ones has come down. They have perhaps realized that in case of bad relationships, they will have to get the tattoos removed," says Nivetha, a final year engineering student. Shaan, who owns a tattoo store in Besant Nagar, offers a different perspective. He says, "College students probably don't get a tattoo done because they encounter problems during the visa process, where health concerns are raised." Joel, who has just entered college, feels that youngsters now have newer things to experiment. "As the craze for tattoos has come down, college goers are not interested in what has already come and gone." Many college girls feel that it is much better to get temporary tattoos than get a permanent one and regret it later as they are unsure of what they want. Experts cite reasons like increased awareness towards allergic reactions and skin infections to account for the reduction in number of people opting for permanent tattoos. However, there a few who still swear by permanent tattoos. Shivangi, a final year student, recently got a permanent tattoo that reads 'maa om paa'. She says, "It is my way of letting my parents know how much they mean to me.
But this priest chose to take the tattoo way. Hunsur Ramachandra Rao Sathish, 55, a priest from Mangalore, has got tattoos of nearly 30 gods all over his body. He wants to educate devotees and the public about the different forms of Hindu deities and philosophers. He told TOI that he got the idea of getting the Hindu gods inked after seeing youngsters with tattoos of animals, flowers, human figures and shapes. He said he got the images tattooed by an artist in Srirangapatna over a period of two months. "It is the best way to create awareness about gods and philosophers. People who see me take another look closely. Many have appreciated my efforts,'' he said. He was 53 years old when he got the first image tattooed.
Drake, the international superstar was in Houston earlier this week and while here got himself a Houston Astros tattoo on his shoulder. Its a little smaller than Freds, but we really appreciate that Drake appreciates the Fred & Ted show so much he would get a tattoo just like one of its hosts. Drake says the tattoo is to commemorate Houston, the place he first met Lil Wayne back in November of 2008. The rest of the story is history. We still think Fred had something to do with this.
The trip also coincides with the couples three year anniversary. Were both Uni students so we cant afford to visit my sister, let alone have an awesome holiday, said Ms Love. Toni, who is currently in Auckland studying for her Bachelor of Arts exam tomorrow, said she was stoked with the announcement and a little bit nervous. I have bungy jumped at The Ledge in Queenstown before. I was so nervous I nearly pulled the guy down with me, she said. Im terrified of heights, but the guys were great and I was so stoked I did it, I cant wait to do it again. The exact size and location of the couples tattoos is still up for negotiation but the pair is true to their word and will be tattooed this Friday in Auckland before flying to Queenstown. I didnt think wed actually win. I cant believe I convinced Josh to get matching tattoos, but Im so excited, Ms Love said.
You cant control how people will interpret your tattoos, but you can control what those tattoos are. At the very least, make sure that you understand your own art. Do A Background Check. There are crappy, sloppy, irresponsible tattoo artists out there, so do your research. You can get scarred and/or infected if you end up getting work from a sub-par artist, so its worth your while to do some digging. Ideally, you should get a recommendation from a friend or acquaintance whos had a positive experience working with a local artist. Otherwise, consider group review resources like Yelp where you can read about the experiences your peers have had in great and gorey detail. Play detective for a while before calling around or making appointments. Be Patient, Be Collaborative. Most artists insist on a consultation before the actual tattooing begins, and if that initial meeting isnt offered up front, insist.
"These results should be considered when discussing tattoo removal with patients," Naldi said. "They should also be taken into consideration when deciding about decorating the skin [with] a new tattoo." Naldi, from the Centro Studi Gruppo Italiano Studi Epidemiologici in Dermatologia in Bergamo, Italy, and his colleagues published their findings online Sept. 17 in the Archives of Dermatology. The same journal offers up some encouraging news from a research team led by Dr. Nazanin Saedi, director of laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology in the department of dermatology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. In a small study of just 12 patients, Saedi found that a new approach to tattoo removal appears to be a safe and much faster method than standard Q-switched lasers. "With this [new] type of laser, the energy is released in a much quicker timeframe, and that is actually much better for removal," said Saedi, who conducted her research while with SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, Mass. "What it does," she explained, "is shatter and shake up the ink in a way that seems to break up more of it with each session of treatment than Q-switched lasers." On average, Saedi's patients needed a little more than four treatment sessions to clear away at least 75 percent of the unwanted tattoo. By comparison, Saedi said patients undergoing standard Q-switched laser care would need about double that number of treatments.
Study Findings Surprising, Dermatologist Says Derick says many findings in the study surprised her, including the fact that older tattoos are harder to remove than newer ones. Naldi says this appears to be the case because over time the ink sinks deeper down into the skin and fat, where it is harder for the laser to reach. He adds that smoking may hamper ink removal by inhibiting immune system function. The study included 352 people who had their tattoos removed with the Q-switched laser. In about half the cases, the tattoos were successfully removed after 10 sessions. Three times out of four, they were removed by session 15. Smoking lowered the chance of successful tattoo removal in 10 sessions by nearly 70%. The study appears in the Archives of Dermatology. Thirty-six percent of gen-nexters between the ages of 18 and 25 in the U.S.
Amy Would you consume the label on apples, peaches etc? Are there health implications? Or can you wash them off? Emma Hmmm? Thanks, but no thanks! I would never consume those products. johan How much energy is needed for the laser aplication proces and what are the environmental consequences of that? Iikka I dont see the problem.
The tattoo on his right arm with a cross, an angel and a halo symbolises his love for his dad. The other one on his forearms depicts the theme dream, inked in memory of his maiden directorial venture, Honeybee. Actress Kukku Parameswaran says she got inked just for fun. "I am a spontaneous person. One day I felt I want to get a tattoo on my body, and straight away I went to a hospital to get an injection so that I won't feel any pain as I get inked on my legs," says Kuku, who has the image of the Sun inked on her. "I am madly in love with the Sun, the star of the solar system. It's a token of my love towards him," says the actress. Actress Lena, who has got a couple of tattoos on her body, says each tattoo immortalises each phase of her life. "It was one of my friends based at Kovalam, who inked an outline for me. Later, an Italian friend of mine did the shading part. It's a masterpiece as it won't happen twice," says the actress, who designs her tattoos.
Are there certain anatomical traits you try to accentuate in your Inked Animal prints for scientific purposes? Ben: I dont think we print for any tangible scientific goal, though we do print in a spirit of documentation, similar to goals of the original Gyotaku printings I guess. As weve expanded our medium beyond fish, weve been interested in trying to document life processes through the animals, such as internal or unique anatomy and road-kill or animated postures. Adam: Not long ago I ran across some field notes belonging to a fish collector from the late 1800s, Edgar Mearns, who, rather than preserving a particularly large fish, decided to trace the animal on paper and insert it in his fieldbook. We were well into the Inked Animal Project at that point and thats when I realized what we were really doing was a form of documentation as well as art. But, in reality, these days with cameras so ubiquitous, there is little need to print or trace the animal on paper for documentation purposes. I think our prints have relatively little scientific value, but substantial artistic value. I often think about the physical characteristics that someone who knows the species well would need to see to verify the identity of the specimen, but I try not to let that get in the way of creating interesting art. Id much rather have interesting art of an unknown and unverifiable species. Wild pig ( Sus scrofa ).
So, perhaps the question is not whether tattoos are sinful, but rather, what is the motivation or meaning behind the mark? There is a story behind every tattoo. Perhaps a religious tattoo might offer an opportunity to share one's faith. Every year on Ash Wednesday, Christians participate in a ritual of rubbing ashes on our foreheads in the form of a cross. This "ash tattoo" calls Christians to conversion, to turn away from sin and return to God. It is a kind of body art that reflects outwardly our inner call to reclaim our identity as children of God. The Rev. Duke Tufty, Unity Temple, Kansas City, Mo.: I believe many things in the Bible are not the word of God, but rather cultural taboos conceived by man. If a person freely chooses to be a member of a particular culture and abide by its taboos, that is that person's right, just as it is the right of another person to not be expected to comply. The book of Leviticus states one should not go with an uncovered head; one should not wear a fabric blend of wool and linen; if one sees his neighbor working on the Sabbath he should kill him; men should not shave or cut their hair. A menstruating woman is deemed unclean and should not be touched until seven days after. This is the way people of that time chose to live their lives. Yet I feel no obligation to follow these rules. In regards to tattoos, some deem them sinful, some deem them as sacred adornments and still others view them as expressions of individuality. Which perspective is right? They all are. I recently met a young woman who had three sets of kissing lips on her back. Her sisters had actually kissed her back and she had the exact shape of each kiss made permanent by tattoo. For her it symbolized the ever-present love of her sisters. Far from sinful, it touched me as sublime.

Surgical excision and dermabrasion involve the physical removal of tattooed skin. Unfortunately, all of these treatments require trained specialists to perform them. One option you can use to remove a tattoo at home is salabrasion, which involves the scrubbing of the tattoo with an abrasive pad soaked in saline. While this method can reduce the visibility of your tattoo, it will likely leave your skin discolored and thickened. You should seek professional tattoo removal treatment if you want the results to look as natural and healthy as possible. You Might Also Like Easy Ways to Remove Temporary Tattoos Step 1 Shave the area to be treated. Removing the hair from the area will make the salabrasion process less painful and more effective. Step 2 Disinfect the tattooed area by washing it with antibacterial soap. You should consider asking your doctor for a prescription antibacterial sudsing emulsion agent to use in this step for superior disinfection. Step 3 Dip the gauze sponge in water, then wring it out so it remains moist, but not dripping wet. Repeatedly roll the sponge through a small pile of table salt to salinate the absorbed water. Stop rolling the sponge in the salt when the salt stops dissolving. Step 4 Scrub the tattoo energetically for 30 to 40 minutes or until your skin turns a deep red. The pain you may experience during this process should be mild, as the salt will act as an anesthetic. Step 5 Allow the treated area to dry, then apply a coating of antibiotic cream to it. Cover the area with a sterile bandage. If the bandage is too small, you can use sterile gauze secured in place with first aid tape. Step 6 Remove the dressing to check on the treated area after three days. If it has become redder or significantly more painful, it may be infected.
Rather than fire a single beam at the target, laser tattoo removal works best when multiple high-energy, millisecond or nanosecond pulses are fired repeatedly at the target. This allows any heat generated in the pigment explosion to dissipate before the next pulse hits. It reduces pain, and reduces scarring. There are several different types of laser. Some lasers have a fixed frequency, while others are tuneable. Each will remove a different colour based on the frequency of light generated. Person-to-person variation in skin colour and thickness and tattoo-to-tattoo variation in pigments, technique and depth mean it's impossible to predict how much laser is required to remove a particular tattoo. Trained operators err on the side of caution, preferring to under-treat the tattoo and risk the need to repeat the treatment rather than over-treat and risk causing permanent scarring. Treatments are usually done without local anesthetic, and are said to be only marginally more painful than having the tattoo. Devices to cool the skin prior to laser treatment reduce the discomfort. So, how long does it take? Multi-coloured tattoos often require multiple lasers or a single laser with a tuneable frequency. Each treatment takes five to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo. Following treatment, the skin will immediately whiten and swell; this may be followed by weeping of the skin a few hours later and the formation of a scab. This should heal after seven to ten days. The pigment will slowly fade over three to six weeks as the fractured ink particles are removed by the cells of the immune system. Repeat treatments are usually spaced six or seven weeks apart. Most tattoos require six to 12 treatments to fade. But it's important to note that complete tattoo removal without scarring is rare.
It was easy to agree. These were all things Widner wanted to do. It would take up to a year to find the right doctors and schedule the operations. Meanwhile, it was clear the family had to leave Michigan. The white power Web forums were wild with chatter about the race traitor couple and their family. Through local police, the FBI warned that they were in danger. In the spring of 2008 they packed their belongings and moved to Tennessee, near Julie's father. They rented a three-bedroom house in the country, joined a church. Helped by his father-in-law and his pastor, Widner found some work. The threats subsided. ___ Dr. Bruce Shack, who chairs the Department of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, vividly remembers the first time he met Widner. After seeing photographs and talking to the SPLC, he had agreed to do the surgery.
